EL VY: No Time To Crank The Sun
You know how sometimes you are just feeling something really intensely, and you don't know quite how to process those feelings. You sit with them. You write them out. You take long walks with them. You sweat over them at the gym and eat cookies in bed with them, yet there they remain and you just don't quite know what to do with them. Following you around like a shadow. Sitting on top of your chest like a boulder. And then one Thursday morning you see a link on the interwebs and you click it and suddenly your bedroom is flooded with music and a song you have never heard before - or maybe one you have heard hundreds of times before but regardless, in this moment, that song is everything you and those feelings needed and everything comes pouring out of your heart like a flood.
No? That's just me? I mean... probably. But that definitely just happened with this new EL VY (an amazing new project from Matt Berninger of The National and Brent Knopf of Menomena/Ramona Falls) song titled "No Time To Crank The Sun." Perhaps I simply wasn't expecting it since the duo's first two releases from their collaboration were vastly more upbeat and a quirkly nerdy kind of danceable (you can hear both below) but this song struck a definite emotional chord with me just when I needed it most. Damn you Berninger, you just get me.
Here are Matt and Brent performing "No Time To Crank The Sun" from a studio in Belgium yesterday. Enjoy!
EL VY's debut album Return To The Moon will be out on October 30th on 4AD.
