Day Wave
So far we are up to Thursday and it has been overcast in San Francisco every single day this week. Of course this makes complete sense, since I finally invested in light reduction curtains for my overly sunny morning bedroom after procrastinating it for two years. Of course. Thee curtains are still sitting in a bag on the floor, because instead I am craving sunshine like it's pizza. Curses to you, Karl the Fog.
My solution to that has been to turn to and put on heavy rotation the latest EP of surf dream pop from Day Wave. Oakland based artist Jackson Phillips' low fi tunes deliver just the right amount of upbeat melodies mixed with melancholy lyrics about making a mess of your life that as a listener you feel both chipper and less alone simultaneously. That's what summer time is good for, and that's what records are for when the sun won't come out to play and you want to fake it til you make it just the same.
I'll save my new curtains for another day.
