If you don't have plans tomorrow night and are looking to see some really amazing bands, my amazing friend Tom has put together this great benefit show to help raise money for a book he is writing about the state of music and the music industry in 2010 and what the future holds. I've included his explanation of the project in further detail below, but what I can absolutely tell you is that he has put together a stellar line up (and in a week too, an impressive feat for sure). Here is the flier, and also.... WOO HOO:
I have a pair of guest list spots to give away to a reader! Email me at irockiroll@gmail.com with SOUND THROUGH SIGHT in the subject line and I'll pick someone tomorrow to go! Feel free to include a link to a video with baby animals if you'd like, but it isn't a requirement.
Miracles Of Modern Science - Eating Me Alive
mynameisjohnmichael - Misery Runs (I played this New Orlean's based band on EVR during my last guest dj spot and am DYING to see them)
From Tom:
I'm writing a book about music and the music industry in 2010. You can read a whole lot more about it on the Kickstarter page ( here) we created to help raise the money to make it happen, but in short, I'm taking a road trip across America and Mexico next month in search of where music and the music industry stands in 2010, how we got here, and where we're going. Along the length of the trip I intend to speak with bands large and small, venue owners, record store clerks, label managers, and music fans of all types to gain their insight on the state of music. I'm then going to write about my experiences and findings in a book that I hope will be equal parts Chuck Klosterman's Killing Yourself To Live and Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America. I'm going to be traveling with two companions - a photographer and a filmmaker - and they're each going to be documenting the trip through their respective mediums.
To help raise the money needed to make this trip and print up the first edition of the ensuing book, we're having a concert THIS FRIDAY (aka tomorrow) night. Four amazing bands have been generous enough to lend their support to the project. They'll be playing at Newsonic Loft (76 Rutledge St) in South Williamsburg, an amazing loft space that has seen many of Brooklyn's best bands grace it's stage. Doors are at 9pm and the cover is $7. There will be cheap drinks or you can BYOB.
