Last night, UK band The Joy Formidable TORE UP a stuffed to-the-brim sold out room at Union Hall. Apparently Passion Pit toured the with them abroad and loved them so much the convinced their label to fly the band to the US to open for them at Terminal 5.
Their success is a win for everyone, because Joy Formidable added two extra headlining shows at much smaller venues - last night at UH and tonight at Pianos. And since they will NOT be appearing at SXSW, if you are in NYC tonight and looking for some sick new music to check out, Pianos is the place to be (especially if you like your rock music dark and with lots of distortion). I mean, last night petite powerhouse singer Ritzy Bryan (best name evs) actually couldn't play an encore because she had basically destroyed her guitar during their set. That shit is crazy/awesome, and she apologized with such a sweetness you'd hardly think it was even possible for her to be so hardcore.
